I've been training in Uechi/Shohei Ryu since 1990 under the instruction of Paul Natzyl who created the Shi Gakko Shudan (The Four School Group) and I became a fully qualified instructor in 1998.
I became a Godan which is a 5thDan black belt grade in 2013 and have a very keen interest in other Martial Arts to enhance my knowledge and pass this on to my students to improve their Karate and their self-defence skills. I been training with various students in other styles (including some black belts) in not only Karate but other styles of fighting including Wing Chun Kung Fu, Judo, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu and Boxing.
Having trained for most of my life I believe that the disciplines learnt in Karate helps with everyday life such a discipline and confidence and I like to bring these aspects to my classes. People who have trained in Martial Arts for long enough will know that Karate is not just about fighting.
I have made some very good friends during my training and it is very good to know that other friendships are made throughout my classes. This also helps in making the point that people who train with me are there to improve their own skills and to help others rather than prove their dominance over less skilled students.
I really enjoy the challenges in training and hope that my students do too.
Hope to see you at the Dojo!
